Learning Red Hat Linux by B McCarty 2003 3rd Ed United States of America O Reily

Learning Red Hat Linux claims to be a ‘clear, no-nonsense introduction to the popular Red Hat distribution of Linux.’ It guides users through the process of installing and running Red Hat Linux on their PC, with the use of informal and coherent style.

RED Hat 8.0 Comes with a CD to aid the learning process. It also contains tutorials which cover OpenOffice Tools and the desktop – making it a good choice for users learning to learn the basics of the operating system itself, aswell as Bash. In can introduce a user into the world of Linux and the world of Bash. Therefore meaning it is suitable for a total beginner .

However, upon reading the book, it is evident that there is minimal Bash Scripting covered. It is mentioned in passing with the most basic of scripts being mentioned – a definite disappointment for a book which claims to teach Bash Scripting.

In conclusion: stay away from this book!
